On the 3rd of June 1993 a passion began. Inspired by Trini, the yellow Power Ranger, Sheela started her first day of karate class preparing to morph into the next ranger. Soon thereafter karate was no longer only her pastime, but a way of life. 17 years later Sheela has won numerous accolades in her sport. In 2004 she joined the United States National team and represented the US competing internationally from Mexico to Japan. In 2007, Sheela took a brief hiatus from the competition world in order to step into the political stage. However, once a karate-ka always a karate-ka, in the summer of 2009 Sheela returned to the competitive arena. The 2009 USA National Karate Federation Nationals and team trials were being held in her hometown of Fort Lauderdale. It was no surprise when Sheela decided to pull out the gloves with only 3 weeks of training; she stepped onto the mat once again after her 2 year sabbatical.
